Apex To Debut New SD Flat-Faced Trigger Kit At 2015 NRA Show

LOS OSOS, Calif. – Apex Tactical Specialties announced that it will be debuting its latest drop-in aftermarket trigger system for Smith & Wesson pistols when it showcases the new Flat-Faced Action Enhancement Trigger & Sear Kit for SD models, at the Apex booth (#3219) during the 2015 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, April 10-12 in Nashville.

Apex already offers two wildly popular upgrades for the Smith & Wesson SD model pistols. The Apex Polymer SD Action Enhancement Trigger reduces pre-travel by approximately 20% and over travel by 10%, while the Apex SD Spring Kit produces a smoother trigger pull and improved reset along with lowering the factory trigger pull weight approximately 2.0 lbs.

The new Flat-Faced SD Action Enhancement Trigger, along with the new Fully Machined SD Sear, delivers the same benefits of the Polymer AE Trigger with the addition of a more crisp, consistent break provided by the sear. In addition, the flat trigger design provides for greater mechanical advantage and when coupled with the Apex SD Spring Kit the trigger pull weight drops approximately 3.0 lbs (from factory specs), delivering a major performance improvement over the factory’s fire control system.

The new Flat-Faced SD Action Enhancement Trigger and Fully Machined SD Sear will be available for purchase later this summer.

Among the wide variety of aftermarket parts for Smith & Wesson firearms that Apex will be displaying during the three-day event will be prototype designs for various other pistol brands such as Ruger, Sig Sauer and Walther.

Apex will once again be selling during the NRA Show and offering special show pricing on much of its current product line including popular items such as the Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit, Shield Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Trigger Kit and the Apex Armorer’s Block and Tray.

To take advantage of this limited time show special pricing be sure to visit Apex Tactical Specialties in booth 3219.

I met you guys at the NRA Convention and felt this trigger in the SD, FANTASTIC! I have a small gunsmithing shop in Ohio and have been telling my customers that have SD’s about this trigger. I have my personal SD setting just waiting so that I can put one of these and the spring kit in to show my customers. Please contact me as soon as you have these available!

We’re working to confirm fit and function across the M&P, SD and Sigma before releasing it. Stay tuned here, on Facebook and Instagram for the official announcement.

  7. Sean - September 12, 2015 @ 7:24 am

Any news? Is this still happening?

  8. paul - September 15, 2015 @ 2:45 pm

Yes. They are doing some testing to make sure/confirm the trigger itself will work in the M&P, SDVE and Sigma.

  9. Sean - November 14, 2015 @ 1:37 pm

Still interested to see more…kinda been a long time now.

  10. Tim Mcvey - February 15, 2016 @ 4:42 am

Haven’t heard anything else about this trigger. Are you guys getting close to releasing the flat faced trigger for the SD?

  11. Jason - May 5, 2016 @ 6:04 pm

So I am assuming this is a no go for the SD? Haven’t heard anything for a very long time. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

  12. paul - May 6, 2016 @ 8:31 am

We have a prototype, which we showed off at last year’s NRA Show, but because of the heavy, long nature of the fire control system in the SD we’re want to make sure the trigger holds up to heavy use over time. You don’t see the same level of “abuse” in the M&P as you do in the SD. We’re with you in wanting this done ASAP but we won’t release something until we’re confident we can get it right. And by right we mean to our usual Apex standards.

Just checking in a few months later. Curious if there is still going to be a flat faced trigger for the “sd” series? Didn’t want to buy the other trigger if this one comes out soon .

  14. paul - December 21, 2016 @ 8:16 am

We have not set a release date but the hope is that we can begin shipping during the first quarter of 2017.

  15. J - September 8, 2017 @ 10:38 am

    Any updates on this trigger?

  16. Sean - October 18, 2017 @ 5:28 am

    Article first published April 2015.
Nothing yet available as of Oct 2017.
I think the only update is that now makes 2 1/2 years of strung along for a product that isn’t going to happen

  17. paul - October 20, 2017 @ 9:22 am

We actually got back to work on this trigger. We’re hoping to be able to release it in the next couple months.

  18. Chris - September 19, 2018 @ 5:38 am

Any idea when the Flat faced Smith & Wesson SD trigger will be made? How about some red, blue and or freedom styles too.

  19. paul - September 21, 2018 @ 12:06 pm

Nothing planned for release. There are some design hurdles with that overall system that we’d need to figure out first. There is no timeline for any kind of release.

  20. Jerome - December 8, 2018 @ 9:11 am

Is this trigger out yet or plans on being released this year still?

  21. paul - December 10, 2018 @ 2:27 pm

That project has been shelved for the time being.
