Apex Unveils New Flat-Faced Forward Set Trigger For M&P Pistols

Apex Flat-Faced Forward Set TriggerLOS OSOS, Calif. – Apex Tactical Specialties announced the release and immediate availability of the new Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit. Previewed at the 2014 NRA Show in Indianapolis, the design of the Flat-Faced Forward Set Trigger was extremely popular with customers who were looking to replicate the feel of a flat 1911 type trigger but in an M&P pistol.

“Following on the success and popularity of our Forward Set Trigger, we looked to further increase the performance of the M&P’s fire control system with a trigger profile closer to what 1911 shooters experience. The new Flat-Faced Forward Set Trigger delivers a feel and performance of a factory 1911 type trigger at an approximate weight of 4.0 to 5.0 lbs,” explained Randy Lee, president at Apex Tactical Specialties.

Designed to work in any Smith & Wesson M&P model pistol in a centerfire caliber, the Apex Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit reduces trigger pre-travel and over-travel, while allowing the shooter to position their finger at an increased leverage point lower on the trigger face to take advantage of lower trigger pull weights.

Included in the full kit are the Apex Forward Set Sear which shortens the stroke of the trigger by dropping the striker at a point farther forward than the factory sear. The Ultimate Striker Block produces a smoother trigger pull and eliminates most false reset issues through an improved radius on the striker block face. The Forward Set Spring Kit produces a trigger pull of 4.0 to 5.0 lbs (depending on trigger return spring installed).

The new Apex Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit, part #100-054, retails for $169.95 and is available now at ApexTactical.com, Brownells.com, G&R Tactical and Speed Shooter Specialties.

Customers who already have an Apex Forward Set Trigger Kit installed in their M&P and want to install the new Flat-Faced Trigger should contact Apex Tactical Specialties at (805) 528-5250 or guns@apextactical.com for options.

  4. ED WILLIAMSON - April 21, 2015 @ 3:40 am

I love my new S&W, M&P Shield. but unhappy with trigger pull & roughness. Please advise me of your trigger mechanism choices and expected cost(s).
    Thank you,

  5. Brad - May 4, 2015 @ 5:29 pm

Dumb question probably but does “all M & P” include the Shield’s trigger replacement?

    Thanks!

  6. How to improve reset on Apex flat 1911-style trigger?
  7. paul - June 11, 2015 @ 10:44 am

No, it does not include the Shield.

  8. paul - June 11, 2015 @ 10:47 am

All our products, including those for the Shield, are described and outlined on our website.

  9. paul - June 11, 2015 @ 10:50 am

If you haven’t already, please call us for a quote.

  10. Charlie Marshall - June 20, 2015 @ 5:44 am

When will you have a flatface for my shield?

  11. Mike Morris - July 5, 2015 @ 11:38 am

Why is it you will not respond to customers asking about the Flat Face for a Shield?

  12. Peter Carr - July 6, 2015 @ 8:56 pm

I would love to see this offering for the shield line as well. It would make sense as a lot of us have both and like to keep triggers consistent.

  13. john - July 9, 2015 @ 2:31 am

Hi does the flat-face trigger fit the new m&p 9mm performance center ported. Thank you

  14. Larry Trigg - July 26, 2015 @ 3:40 pm

Any plans for a forward set sear for the Shield. I have the DCAEK but still more pretravel than I’d like. I have the forward sear on my 9c and would love it for my Shield!

  15. paul - August 12, 2015 @ 9:20 am

You mean the one we just announced and will ship in a couple weeks? That Flat-Faced Action Enhancement Trigger for the M&P Shield?

  16. paul - August 12, 2015 @ 9:23 am

    Like a charm.

  17. Gino - August 13, 2015 @ 9:03 pm

Will this fit the M&P Pro Ported. The ported version has an adjustable triger stop. I just want to make sure this will work with that. Or if that can be removed for the kit 100-054 to work. Thanks

  18. Gino - August 13, 2015 @ 11:23 pm

Also my m&p pro ported doesn’t have a trigger safty. so will thd 100-054 still work with this? Thanks

  19. paul - August 17, 2015 @ 10:09 am

This kit replaces the trigger as well as the sear and certain springs. It is a substantial upgrade and you’ll find you have no need for a trigger stop once you install the Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit.

  20. Aidan - August 29, 2015 @ 4:09 pm

Just to confirm. Will this be able compatible with a VTAC version

  21. paul - August 31, 2015 @ 10:57 am

    Yes.

  22. Kevmar - September 6, 2015 @ 8:52 pm

Have a m&p 9L pro, and loving that trigger in red. Can i just change my factory trigger and replace with the flat face, or the full kit is required? Its my conceal carry but matches weekends.

  23. paul - September 9, 2015 @ 11:12 am

That is a Forward Set Trigger and requires the Forward Set Sear to work. So, yes, you’ll have to purchase the full kit if you do not already have a Forward Set Sear & Trigger installed in your pistol.

  24. David - December 23, 2015 @ 8:32 pm

Do you offer a turn key instalation of the trigger kit. I have the M&P 9mm Pro Series. I ship it to you, you install and ship it back?

  25. paul - December 24, 2015 @ 10:12 am

Yes we do. You will have to contact our Customer Service team at (805) 528-5250 and they will talk you through the process, the lead time and the associated costs. If you are going to go through that kind of expense – of shipping the gun out to us – we’d suggest looking at including one of our new Apex Grade Gunsmith Fit Barrels for the 9mm M&P.

  26. Jim - February 4, 2016 @ 3:08 pm

Hi. Any plans for sig 320 flat triggers

  27. paul - February 4, 2016 @ 4:59 pm

We have a lot more than just plans. We introduced the Apex Flat-Faced Action Enhancement Trigger for the Sig Sauer P320 in July of last year. You’ll find it available for sale in our online webstore. (https://store.apextactical.com/WebDirect/Products/Details/192145)

  28. JCN - February 29, 2016 @ 12:03 pm

Just ordered the forward set sear and trigger kit. Anything else need for installation on M&P 9?

  29. paul - March 2, 2016 @ 5:11 pm

Except for tools, that kit has the parts you need. Refer to the installation videos for tools that will aid in the installation of the trigger and kit.

  30. Mike - March 22, 2016 @ 2:02 pm

Do you have the flat faced set forward sear trigger kit for my M&P .40 compact? And does it come in red?

  31. paul - March 27, 2016 @ 12:26 pm

Yes. As the website shows, the Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kits “work with all Smith & Wesson M&P Pistols in all centerfire calibers and configurations.” You can order a Red Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit from Brownells.

  32. The Take Down Group - August 17, 2016 @ 1:51 am

I have the Smith and Wesson M&P9 Pro Series that already comes from the factory with a 4lbs trigger. I use this as my duty gun. Do you or will you sometime in the future just offer the flat faced trigger by itself to work with the S&W internals? I ask because if it comes down to using my gun in the field I don’t want to have issues having a modified gun. I only want the flat faced trigger for comfort

  33. paul - August 29, 2016 @ 11:30 am

It’s something we’ve looked at, as an Action Enhancement Flatty, but we do not have anything available at the moment.

  34. Mike Mendez - November 12, 2016 @ 8:20 am

I have the MP9 PRO C.O.R.E and would like to order a 2 pound trigger pull kit , flat face. Full kit. Please give part number. Thanks

  35. paul - November 14, 2016 @ 9:16 am

You would have to order the Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit then one of our Competition Spring Kits. However, do NOT use the sear spring from the Competition Spring Kit. Use the one provided in the Forward Set Kit. The exact trigger pull weight will depend on the tolerances of your pistol. We would not recommend this kind of set up for anything but a dedicated competition pistol.

  36. Wayne - November 23, 2016 @ 1:35 pm

Do these fit S&W 45 Compact?

  37. paul - December 21, 2016 @ 8:13 am

    Yes.

  38. Jacques - January 5, 2017 @ 10:09 pm

    Good morning folks!

Love my apex trigger in my 9c…fantastic!

    Guys…will this trigger work in the m&p 2.0 ?

    Thxs you guys rock!

    Jacques, Pretoria SA.

  39. paul - January 16, 2017 @ 11:59 am

The Apex parts that currently fit the new M&P M2.0 (9/40) are listed on our website. We do have the Action Enhancement Trigger for the M2.0, as well as the Duty/Carry Kit.

  40. Mike Cross - March 20, 2017 @ 7:40 pm

Hello, do you guys make a flat trigger for a HK VP9?

  41. paul - March 23, 2017 @ 1:33 pm

We do not make any triggers for the HK line of pistols.

  42. JD - March 29, 2017 @ 2:48 pm

When will a duty/carry spring kit be available for the flat faced trigger for people who carry who do not want a trigger pull lighter than 4# but do want a flat faced trigger?

  43. paul - March 29, 2017 @ 6:53 pm

The Forward Set Sear & Trigger kit for the M&P does not lend itself to our typical Duty/Carry setup. We recommend the Action Enhancement Trigger with D/C Kit. As for a Flat-Faced Action Enhancement Trigger, that is something that will need to be worked on.
