Give Your Revolver That Custom Feel With Apex Hammers

LOS OSOS, Calif. – Give your Smith & Wesson revolver the feeling of a custom tuned action with an Evolution IV or Mass Driver Hammer from Apex Tactical Specialties, the premier custom revolver house in the country.

Known for converting factory K-, L- and N-Frame Smith & Wesson revolvers, including those from the Performance Center, into highly coveted state-of-the-art custom competition wheelguns featuring their signature light, reliable 5-pound double-action trigger stroke, Apex offers easy drop-in aftermarket upgrades revolver owners can install themselves. The same hammers Apex installs in their top level custom builds.

“Our drop-in hammers are designed and engineered to deliver a significant performance upgrade by converting the Smith & Wesson revolver into a double-action only with a trigger stroke that is smoother and lighter than anything offered by the factory. So, with the help of an Apex Evolution IV Hammer, what was once a heavy, gritty double-action trigger pull in the low to mid teens can now resemble a custom shop revolver,” said Randy Lee, president and CEO of Apex and one of the nation’s most respected revolver gunsmiths.

The Evolution IV K- & L-Frame Hammer from Apex is designed as a drop-in replacement for Smith & Wesson revolvers, such as the popular Models 66 and 686. The Apex hammer, sear, stirrup and spring replace MIM factory components found in Smith & Wesson revolvers and Performance Center revolvers made after January 2012.

Utilizing the same precision manufacturing process and high quality stainless steel, the Evolution IV N-Frame Hammer is ideal for upgrading models such as the Smith & Wesson 625, 627 and 929 revolvers.

Apex’s Mass Driver Hammer improves ignition of 22LR ammunition by increasing the mass of the hammer’s impact surfaces, allowing for lighter double action trigger pulls than with the factory’s stock hammer. It is designed for use in the Smith & Wesson Model 617-4 (and later) and is ideal for competition and recreational use. The Apex Mass Driver Hammer, with sear, stirrup and spring, replaces MIM Smith & Wesson factory components to ensure consistent performance.

The Apex Evolution IV and Mass Driver Hammers are among other upgrades Apex offers for Smith & Wesson Revolvers. The hammers retail for $149.95 and are designed as drop-in replacement parts. Due to variations in factory tolerances, minor fitting may be required and Apex recommends this fitting be performed by a competent gunsmith, though it is not always necessary.

Do you sell both an improved competition hammer AND trigger with appropriate springs for the S&W Model 929, 9mm Revolver?
I waited months for delivery of my 929, only to find a Terrible Action / Trigger pull… removal of the side plate revealed MIM trigger and hammer components that could NOT be stoned or polished for Steel Challenge competition. I expected FAR more quality in a Performance Center revolver and am deeply disappointed for the hard-earned money I paid! Please help!!!

  8. paul - January 11, 2018 @ 1:47 pm

No, only the K/L and N-Frame models.

  9. Ham-Hands - January 18, 2018 @ 11:11 am

You describe this Evolution IV Hammer as a drop in replacement for the K & L frame Smiths… Would you describe it as the same for an “N” frame Model 629? I’m more than comfortable & capable in removing the side plate, hammer, strut, stirrup, bolt release, etc. in order to install a lock delete plug to eliminate the key lock and flag that comes on new Smiths… I have competently done so to several of mine and customers “N” frames. Is your “N” frame kit plug and play is what I’m basically asking? Thanks Apex, I’ve enjoyed all your trigger upgrades for the M&P series pistols!

  10. paul - January 19, 2018 @ 8:59 am

    Yes.

  11. R Henry - February 18, 2018 @ 6:36 pm

Can the MASS hammer be used on the 617 (10-shot) as single/double action, or does it convert the revolver to double-only?

  12. paul - February 19, 2018 @ 9:48 am

No, the Mass Driver Hammer converts the revolver to double-action.

  13. paul - March 12, 2018 @ 4:22 pm

We only offer the hammers for the K/L and N-Frame revolvers. We do not offer triggers.

  14. David - March 17, 2018 @ 10:14 pm

Do you make a spurless hammer for a Ruger SP101?

  15. paul - March 27, 2018 @ 8:56 am

No we do not. Nothing for the Ruger revolvers at the moment.

  16. Joe - July 15, 2018 @ 11:04 am

Do you know if this hammer is IDPA SSR legal ?

    Thanks !

  17. paul - July 16, 2018 @ 9:04 am

That is a question for IDPA HQ.

  18. Kevin D Williams - July 23, 2018 @ 2:35 am

I’ve read responses and could not figure out to which questions your replies referred to, so….. I have a Performance Center 460 snub nosed revolver w/3.5″ barrel. Do you have an all steel hammer assembly that would replace my MIM factory one? I already have a trigger to match from Cylinder and Slide, they don’t however make a hammer as yet. Can you help me out? Thanks for your time on this.

    Sincerely,
    Kevin D Williams

  20. paul - July 31, 2018 @ 7:39 am

No we do not make a hammer for the J-Frame revolvers.

  21. scott - September 2, 2018 @ 8:21 am

    Kevin,
Yes we have a hammer that fits the X-frame handguns. The N-Frame hammer is the right one.
