Are you ready for the Apex RAM?

We’re nearing the release of the Apex Reset Assist Mechanism (RAM); only 10 more days until the midnight launch. With the big day nearing, we wanted to put out some additional information for our patiently waiting customers.

The RAM is designed to work in all Smith & Wesson M&P pistols chambered in 9mm, 40 S&W and 357 Sig that are not equipped with thumb safeties or the ILS. If you gun matches the following picture and has the frame plug in (Arrow pointing to it) , your gun will accept the Apex RAM.

The Apex RAM features include:
1. A more pronounced and positive tactile trigger reset.
2. Failsafe reliability if a trigger return spring breaks, allowing te shooter to manually advance the trigger for follow up shots
3. 100% proudly made in the United States

The RAM will be releasing to the world at Midnight the night of November 1, 2010. They will be available online on our web store as well as from most of our dealers all across the country.

The RAM will retail for under $30.

We’re producing a RAM spring specifically for the M&P’s with the Magazine Disconnect, it will be available soon.

Will the RAM be compatible with M&P’s with a thumb safety?

  2. Tango India - October 21, 2010 @ 9:06 pm

How does this supplement the DCAEK? Are they mutually exclusive?

I’ve tried both the DCAEK and the Comp kit on a friends’ pistols and must say I’m impressed with how much better the trigger is with your parts.

    Thanks and keep it up!

@Stephen- We are presently working on a RAM for the Thumb Safety models, but they are not available yet.

@Tango- The RAM can be installed with or without our other parts and works in guns which have had work done by other high end gunsmiths.

Is there a RAM for the M&P45 model in the works?

  5. scott - November 1, 2010 @ 7:39 am

We’re working on the RAM for other models, at the moment we don’t have any release information available.

Great job guys! As an Arizona LE Firearms Instructor, I’ve “played” with a lot of pistols but your products really take the M&P over the top. Keep up the great work…

Will the RAM affect the travel distance of the trigger? Also i installed the comp aek (great btw!) sometimes my second shot comes faster that i prefer sometime. do you think the RAM will help? thanks!

  8. Kurt - November 9, 2010 @ 10:38 am

Will installation instructions be provided, or do I need a gunsmith?

  9. scott - November 9, 2010 @ 12:01 pm

The RAM will not affect the reset distance of the trigger, just improve the felt trigger reset.

Most of our customers are installing the RAM on their own, Randy has an install demo video up on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/apextactical

I noticed my 9mm FS M&P does have the ILS. If I removed the ILS, can I still install the RAM? Thank you.

  11. scott - December 1, 2010 @ 5:41 pm

Yes, if you remove the ILS, you can install the RAM.

  12. Justin - December 12, 2010 @ 4:22 pm

So is it a no go for the Mag Safety models? Thats the model I intend on purchasing for work purposes.

    Thanks

  13. scott - December 20, 2010 @ 11:08 am

The RAM spring we currently produce overcomes the Mag Disconnect spring. Last week we ordered our new spring for the RAM that allows the Magazine Disconnect to function properly yet still provide a better trigger reset.

The Mag Disconnect Compatible variant will be available within a few weeks.

Any news on the thumb safety version?

  15. scott - January 24, 2011 @ 4:34 pm

Nothing new at the moment, we’re still perfecting the design and implementation. Scott

  16. Paul - February 3, 2011 @ 6:30 pm

I have been testing the Comp AEK kit for about six months now and it has been performing flawlessly. I just installed the RAM today and it was just what the M&P needed to round out its perfection as a great handgun. Great job Apex!

  17. JJ - March 20, 2011 @ 12:57 pm

Does the RAM increase the trigger pull rate any?

  18. scott - March 21, 2011 @ 8:56 am

    JJ,

The RAM does not increase the trigger pull weight at all. It only affects the feel of the reset.

I’d like to make sure I’m ordering the right part. My M&P 40 is the standard version. No thumb safety. With a MAG dis-connector the gun will not fire without a mag in? Correct?

  27. scott - March 19, 2012 @ 4:21 pm

    That would be correct.

  28. Richard - June 30, 2012 @ 10:25 am

Any updates on the 45 RAM. I’m very happy w/ my 9 & 40 and looking forward to updating the 45. Thanks….

Any updates on when the RAM will be available for VTAC sear housing blocks?

  30. Berky - August 1, 2012 @ 3:41 pm

I see talk of the RAM for the thumb safety version of the M&P dating back to 2010. Any word on ETA??

  31. Berky - August 1, 2012 @ 3:44 pm

Any plans to make nicer thumb safety levers for the M&P? I’m sure I am like many 1911 lovers who ended up with an M&P for it’s 1911″ish” geometry and higher capacity but find their thumb safety lever cheesy.

  32. Jeff - March 29, 2014 @ 1:58 pm

Will there be a RAM made for the current production M&P’s with the new slide release?

    Thanks

  35. Cesar - September 7, 2014 @ 10:30 pm

Is there any Apex RAM offering for the M&P 9c 2013 early model? Is there any plan to do so?

  36. Kevin - October 29, 2014 @ 6:32 am
