We had a customer bring in his 627 the other day saying that he has a bit of a problem… That was a bit of an understatement. The cylinder was jammed shut due to a round being wedged across the barrel cylinder gap.
After a couple hours of drilling and pounding on it, we finally got the cylinder open. We discovered the customer didn’t just have 1 Squib or ultra light load, he had at least 4. Needless to say, one is dangerous enough, but 4 is just crazy. If I were the customer, I’d go buy a lottery ticket because he’s an extremely lucky man that he didn’t get a good round and blow his gun to bits.
The barrel is bulged and the crane is bent. We can fix the Crane, but the barrel is completely toast and needs to be replaced.
The customer has been shooting for a long time, but is new to reloading and was unsure which powder to buy, so he grabbed a can of Universal Clays and set to loading. His loads were just strong enough to get a round or 2 out of the bore then started stacking them up in the barrel.
You can see 2 of the slugs are separate, but the 3rd and final is extra long, that’s because it’s 2 compressed together.

[...] to factory ammunition stop what you’re doing immediately. If you don’t you may stack up four squibs in one gun. For the record that’s very bad. The owner of that revolver is lucky Darwin missed [...]
[...] Be Careful ! I don't know if this is a repost and hopefully not but I couldn't help but post the link to this. Such a beautiful gun too! I agree that this guy should have bought a lottery ticket that day cause four squibs in a row. If he would have had just one good round then catastrophe would have struck! I don’t think he has enough luck left for a lotto ticket. I would hang the gun and bullets in a nice frame so that any time I start feeling a little too smug it could remind me to back up.
Darwin in action… Reading this story, its almost too much to believe that the person just guestimated the powder and amount and still lived…
