Apex Announces 40/9 Conversion Barrels For M&P Pistols

PEORIA, Ariz. – Apex Tactical Specialties announces the expansion of its line of patent pending Apex Grade Barrels for the Smith & Wesson M&P with the upcoming availability of Apex Grade 40/9 Conversion Barrels in Semi Drop-In and Gunsmith Fit configurations.

Designed by Apex founder and CEO Randy Lee, the unique barrel geometry of the Apex Grade Barrels consistently delivers five-shot groups well under two inches at 25 yards, whether it is with 115gr., 124gr. or 147gr. factory ammunition.

In controlled testing using a Ransom Rest that eliminates the human element and focuses only on the mechanical operation of the barrel in the dynamic environment of the functioning pistol, Apex Grade Barrels routinely delivered sub-one inch groups with several under one half inch.

The new stainless steel Apex Grade Conversion Barrels feature a 1:10” twist rate and are chambered in 9mm and designed for use in .40S&W M&P pistols with 4.25” and 5.00” length standard barrels. The Apex Grade Semi Drop-In 40/9 Conversion Barrel can be easily fitted by the end user and is designed to significantly increase accuracy performance, making the M&P capable of shooting a one and a half inch or better grouping at 25 yards.

The Apex Grade Gunsmith Fit 40/9 Conversion Barrel is designed for installation by a trained gunsmith who can perform an exact barrel fitting to a specific pistol. This precision approach to fitting makes the M&P capable of shooting a one inch or better grouping at 25 yards.

Final accuracy results after installation may vary based on the individual shooter’s ability, ammunition selection and variations in factory firearm tolerances. Additionally, as with all conversion barrels, the shooter may experience erratic ejection patterns due to light or low velocity rounds.

The new Apex Grade 40/9 Conversion Barrels for the .40S&W Smith & Wesson M&P retail for $199.95 and will be available through Brownells as well as direct from ApexTactical.com starting Tuesday, February 28.

Dealers and distributors can order the new conversion barrels by contacting Apex at dealer@apextactical.com or calling (623) 322-0200.

Does this mean you’ll soon be coming out with Apex Grade barrels cambered in 40 S&W ( please, oh please say yes).

+1 I would like an option the the 40 s&w too!

    Great trigger by the way!

  3. WRR - March 19, 2019 @ 2:10 am

Does this work in the M&P 2.0 as well?

  4. scott - March 19, 2019 @ 8:31 am

    Yes they do.

We are discontinuing our “Conversion” barrel line due to minimal sales, but there is hope.

All of our 9mm barrels will work as conversion barrels. The barrel hood will be a bit narrow, but that has absolutely zero effect on accuracy or reliability.

Why do you call it a semi drop in, makes me hesitate to buy it, thinking I have to make adjustments that I do not tools to make and don’t want to invest in other things to use your products.

It is a ‘semi drop-in’ because it will require some fitting. In order to achieve the excellent accuracy our barrel delivers, it has to fit to the slide AND the frame.

What’s the difference between the gunsmith fit and the semi drop in? Can I remove my stock barrel and replace it myself with either of these barrels?

  8. paul - August 5, 2019 @ 10:23 am

The Gunsmith Fit barrels are being phased out to ‘special order only’ so you want the Semi Drop-In Barrel. This barrel replaces the stock barrel but it is not a straight drop-in barrel. You will need to do some fitting of the barrel so that it fits properly for your slide AND your frame. This is how the vastly improved accuracy is achieved. We make a barrel fitting jig, and offer a file, that makes this process much easier and insures you file the barrel properly (assuming you use it correctly).
