Upgrade Your M&P Shield With Apex Trigger Kits

LOS OSOS, Calif. – With over 1 million pistols produced in just a few short years, the M&P Shield is one of the most popular models Smith & Wesson has introduced, and, thanks to three trigger options from Apex Tactical Specialties, one of the most popular concealed carry models available.

Known for designing fire control system upgrades for a variety of Smith & Wesson pistols, including those from the Performance Center, Apex offers drop-in aftermarket trigger kits M&P Shield owners can install themselves.

Apex kits for the M&P Shield directly replace the factory hinged trigger with a solid aluminum trigger body featuring a center mounted pivoting safety that maintains factory safety values. The kits reduce pre-travel and over-travel by approximately 20%, and provide the M&P Shield pistol owner a smooth, consistent trigger pull that is approximately 2 lbs lighter (based on variations in factory tolerances) with the advantage of a more detectable trigger reset.

“Our kits for the M&P Shield are among the most popular we offer. In fact, at last year’s NRA Show in Nashville we sold out of Shield kits halfway through the show. Regardless of which option customers go with, nearly all find the Apex upgrade to be a night and day difference over the factory trigger,” said Scott Folk, vice president of Apex.

Apex Action Enhancement Trigger & Duty/Carry Kit options for the M&P Shield include:

Apex Action Enhancement Trigger and Duty/Carry Kit for the M&P Shield (MSRP $159.95)

Apex Red Anodized Action Enhancement Trigger and Duty/Carry Kit for the M&P Shield (MSRP $164.95)

– Apex Flat-Faced Action Enhancement Trigger and Duty/Carry Kit for the M&P Shield (MSRP $164.95)

While Apex offers full kit options featuring both the Action Enhancement Trigger and the Duty/Carry Kit, the two can be purchased separately and installed independently of each other.

The Duty/Carry Kit for the M&P Shield (MSRP $92.95) reduces trigger pull weight by approximately 2 lbs and delivers a smooth, consistent trigger with shorter over-travel and a more noticeable trigger reset.

The Action Enhancement Trigger for the M&P Shield when installed by itself reduces pre-travel and over-travel by approximately 20%. The aluminum body replaces the factory hinged polymer trigger and is available in Black (MSRP $76.95), Red (MSRP $79.95) or Flat-Faced (MSRP $79.95).

You can install just the Duty/Carry Kit to work with the factory hinged trigger, if you’d like.

  2. Dickie - March 12, 2018 @ 4:00 pm

I have a.40 M & P Shield with the safety on the slide. What trigger kit would I need to lighten trigger pull.

  3. paul - March 12, 2018 @ 4:14 pm

You want to look at one of the full trigger w/ duty/carry kit options. These are the most popular and provide the greatest improvement. The color options for the curved trigger version are listed below.

    100-051 Black
    100-056 Red
    100-136 Purple
    100-138 Blue

  4. Wes - March 30, 2018 @ 10:15 am

Will you ever make the flat faced trigger in orange?

  5. paul - May 16, 2018 @ 9:10 am

No, but you can order custom colors from Legion Precision.

  6. Darrel Morgan - June 26, 2018 @ 2:50 pm

Am I to understand that he factory is #10s? If so that would make your trigger #8s right? I have a compact s+w with your trigger it is approx 3 1/2 # i also have a 9 pro same thing. How come the shield trigger is so heavy?? I now have a 40 shield I want to put a apex on it also but I would like about #4 trigger, help me out here.

  7. scott - September 2, 2018 @ 8:27 am

Where did you get 10# from? Our kit, when installed completely, sets the trigger pull to right around 5 to 5.5 lbs. If you want to go down to 4, you can use the factory springs.

  8. Henry - September 21, 2018 @ 11:46 am

Are the triggers and kits equally compatible with the shield 1.0 and 2.0?

  9. paul - September 21, 2018 @ 12:04 pm

No. The Shield 2.0 has a different trigger kit. You can find it in its own section in our webstore.

  10. Dan - October 13, 2018 @ 7:48 pm

I have a Shield .45 Performance Center. What is the best option you have available? Everyrhing i serm to click on says .45 Not Applicable. Any help wpuld be greatly appreciated. I want to order somthing tonight.

  11. paul - October 15, 2018 @ 9:35 am

You want part #100-161 for the Shield 45.

  12. Dan - October 29, 2018 @ 6:40 pm

I have the shield 9mm performance center. Do I need the regular shield trigger kit? Or do I need the 2.0 trigger kit? I looked up which works in the performance center and had no luck. Thanks!

  13. Jacob - November 4, 2018 @ 10:42 am

Can I just buy the flat faced trigger shoe like I can with the curved trigger?

  14. paul - November 13, 2018 @ 12:54 pm

For the Shield, yes. They are on our website.

  15. paul - November 13, 2018 @ 12:56 pm

If it does not say “2.0” on the slide then you would use the original Shield kits.

  16. Michael - December 15, 2018 @ 9:55 am

will the triggers themselves interchange between the shield 9mm 1.0 and the M&P 9mm?

  17. Bob - December 31, 2018 @ 6:39 am

I have a m&p 9mm performance center shield. The trigger pull is about 6 lb. pull. I ordered the 100-132 kit . Will this work and drop the trigger down to a 4 lb. pull or will it be 5 to 5.5 lb. ?

  18. paul - December 31, 2018 @ 2:20 pm

Depending on the springs you use, yes. You can be in the 4lb range if you use the factory springs with the rest of the components of that kit.

  19. paul - December 31, 2018 @ 2:21 pm

No, the triggers are different for the different size frames.

  20. Josh - February 12, 2019 @ 2:23 pm

Is this trigger system an upgrade for my S&W performance center shield 9? If so what’s the difference?

  21. scott - February 18, 2019 @ 6:20 am

Yes it is an upgrade. The trigger itself is a solid body machined trigger as opposed to the factory hinged trigger. The Sear and Striker Block are balanced to produce a smooth and consistent pull with a crisp break.

  22. Stevem Behrends - April 23, 2019 @ 6:58 am

Do you have anything to reduce the trigger pull on the Shield EZ?

  23. scott - April 24, 2019 @ 6:36 am

No, we don’t presently offer anything for the Shield EZ Models.

  24. Edward Freeman - May 20, 2019 @ 6:55 pm

I have M&P 9 Shield. Which trigger kit would you recommend for everyday carry? Thank you.

  25. paul - May 20, 2019 @ 7:07 pm

For the Shield, the kit part numbers to look at are 100-051 (BLK), 100-056 (RED), 100-136 (PUR), 100-138 (BLU) or 100-059 (FDE). The only difference is the color of the trigger body.

  26. Jess - June 3, 2019 @ 6:26 pm

Does this trigger fit the shield performance center 2.0?

  27. paul - June 4, 2019 @ 8:28 am

We have a trigger kit specifically for the Shield 2.0. You need to order part # 100-171 for the Shield 2.0.

  28. Chris - June 23, 2019 @ 7:37 pm

Will the action enhanced duty carry kit for the 2.0 shield work in the new 4” shield 2.0 model that just came out a few weeks ago?

  29. paul - June 24, 2019 @ 7:06 am

Yes. 100-171 for the Shield 2.0 will fit in the new 4.00″ slide versions.

  30. DeeMac50 - July 12, 2019 @ 11:31 am

When will there be an available trigger kit for the .380 EZ?

  31. paul - July 22, 2019 @ 9:36 am

We have no plans for a trigger upgrade for the .380 EZ.

  32. steve - August 16, 2019 @ 5:27 pm

when reducing the trigger pull to the 4lb range, do you leave all the factory springs in or just the trigger return spring?

  33. scott - August 16, 2019 @ 7:17 pm

Depends on the gun itself, but try just the factory trigger return spring with our sear spring, that will be your best option.

  34. Bill Ballou - August 25, 2019 @ 7:31 am

Looking for the trigger fit. with sear and all for original m&p shield. Found one that had a polimer trigger but can’t find . Price on your site was under 120. Is ther one also had 2 trigger springs, silver and green. Any help would be appreciated, Bill

  35. scott - August 26, 2019 @ 6:41 am

We don’t offer any polymer triggers for the Shield, only aluminum at this point. The kits you saw were for the M&P full size guns, not the Shield.

  36. Thomas - September 19, 2019 @ 9:12 pm

Is there a single video that shows installation of the complete kit including the flat faced trigger?

  37. paul - September 20, 2019 @ 9:40 am

No. We break up the installation into a video for frame disassembly, frame reassembly (which includes kit install) and the slide install of the safety plunger.

  38. Masen - September 21, 2019 @ 10:13 am

Are these triggers for the M&P series considered single stage or 2 stage? And what are the factory triggers?

  39. paul - September 24, 2019 @ 11:49 am

The M&P and the M&P Shield are striker-fired pistols. They are not DA/SA, single stage or 2 stage. They are, however, significantly better than the stock triggers.

  40. Alexander - November 20, 2019 @ 11:15 pm

Does Apex make a trigger kit for the Smith & Wesson m&p 380 EZ? If so can you provide the model number and price?

  41. scott - November 21, 2019 @ 6:27 am

Hi Alexander, We do not offer any products for the 380 EZ.
